Midnight cardigan

For years I bought fast fashion knitwear that lasted a season. Then I found pieces made one stitch at a time.

It fits like a dream and every single colleague asked where I got it from.

Ordered six weeks before the celebration and the texture and palette matched perfectly.

Half the photographs have it in frame.

The second pair matched the first exactly, eight months apart.

That kind of consistency by hand is not easy.

I sent one photo of my grandmother and got back something she actually recognised.

She cried. So did I, honestly.

I crochet myself, so I will admit I ordered mostly to inspect the work.

The tension is even the whole way through and the ends are woven in properly. I have stopped inspecting and started collecting.

I still cannot believe this piece was made completely by hand.

I half expected the usual factory look. What arrived was softer, warmer and far more charming than the photos. She has not put it down since.
